CHURCH WARDENS` REPORT
Report on the Fabric, Ornaments and Goods of St Mary's Church, Cogges.
Fabric
As reported in the Cogges PCC annual report for 2008 to the last APCM, the church
roof had started to leak in several places namely in the South and North aisles.
Following recommendations and reports by our church architect Andrew Townsend,
and approval by PCC, a faculty was granted and work commenced during spring
2009.Work carried out under this faculty included repairs to the roof on both South and
North aisles and on the West wall to prevent leakage of water through the West
window, the lychgate was repaired and re-roofed as per the current Quinquennial report,
the chancel door was re-furbished and painted along with the two doors in the tower,
and we are pleased to report that these works have solved our previous leaks.
Ornaments and Goods
During the year a new silver plated chalice and paten were purchased to replace the
previous chalice which had become unusable due to leaking. Also due to problems the
Roland keyboard was replaced with a new Yamaha keyboard.
All other ornaments and goods remain in good repair.
Churchyard
Once again we would like to thank Ernie Gascoigne and his team of volunteers for
mowing the churchyard during the year and keeping it looking so good. We would
especially like to thank Ernie who will be standing down from this role this year for all
his hard work over the last few years keeping the churchyard in such good order and
organising the team.
Thanks
Our job as churchwardens would be almost impossible without the assistance of many
other people within the Church fellowship.
We are therefore very grateful to:
Sidesmen who served during 2009 Margaret Armitage, Kevin Joyce, George
Williams, Richard Osman, Joan Cox, Nigel Williams, Val Hill, Elizabeth Knowles and
Nathaniel Miles.
Welcomers, those leading intercessions and those reading the lesson.
The worship group and the team of sound engineers.
The flower arrangers, church cleaners and Sunday coffee makers.
Nigel Williams for his duties as verger,
Colin Johnson and David Lockwood (Churchwardens) January 2010
