Challenging Issues Series, Session 1

How Should We Speak About Abortion in the Church?

Speaking about abortion in our society can seem daunting, so it leaves most of us unsure what to say or think. Is there something different that we could be doing as a church community? Is there a way we can open a middle ground in the conversation? In this seminar Tamie and Jonathan will show how the lived experience of women and men in an unintended pregnancy can be helpful in shaping our view.

Dr Tamie Downes - has been a GP for over 20 years, specialising in women’s health issues. She has counselled many women with unplanned pregnancies and is passionate about helping women to take their time to make fully informed choices and not to rush into something they may live to regret. Tamie is married to Greg, an Anglican minister and has two young daughters.

For nearly 30 years Jonathan Jeffes has led the team running the Post Abortion Healing Course at Holy Trinity Brompton in London. It is from the perspective of women and men who have done this course that Jonathan speaks. He is a retired helicopter pilot and lives in North Leigh with his wife Francesca.
