Second Sundays at Cogges Church

On “Second Sundays” (the second Sunday in every month) we don’t gather together at Wood Green for our weekly service but instead we will gather in smaller groups and congregations for more outward focused services and activities. This is a chance to look outwards, bless our communities and reach out with the good news of Jesus. Second Sundays are all about finding ways to reach out with the love and good news of Jesus, together as the people of God. We still want to connect with God and worship and learn from him, but the focus for our Second Sundays is on looking outwards to those who have not yet found the saving love of Jesus.

For those of you who feel unable to join in with Second Sundays (or start your own) you can always join in with our traditional 9am service at Cogges which will continue on Second Sundays.

This page lists some of the groups which meet on Second Sunday - please feel free to join in whoever you are and whether you feel you have a faith in Jesus or not.

Regular Activities on Second Sundays

Cogges Church Photowalkers - The 2024 Season

Cogges Church Photowalks are back and will - God-willing - take place from April to September 2024.

Like last year, we plan to hold them on 2nd Sundays, but this year, if there is the demand, we may run them on 2nd Mondays or 2nd Fridays. Bookings are via Mark Bunting on bunting768@btinternet.com (or 07951 558973).

The Photowalks are for everyone. Some come along for the walk. Some come along for the photos. Some use their phones to take their photos. Others use their camera. Some want to know more about photography. Others are happy where they are with their photography. Some come on their own. Others bring along a friend or neighbour or family member.

Previously our walks have been around Witney, Minster Lovell, Burford, Blenheim and other picturesque parts of Oxfordshire. We often finish our walk outside a cafe and reward ourselves with a warm beverage.

Please feel free to contact Mark Bunting on bunting768@btinternet.com (or 07951 558973) or John Pontiggia on johnpontiggia@gmail.com with any questions. Or catch any of us, Mark or Ann Bunting, or John or Jenny Pontiggia, any Sunday at Church.

Pub Church

Pub Church has been running since 2007 and is part of Witney Community Church but is attended & supported by several churches in the town. It aims to provide a place for discussion about life & faith and welcomes people at any point on their Christian faith journey, including those with no faith but interested in asking questions. The meetings usually follow a theme and can involve a talk, small groups, Q&A sessions, interviews, video clips and 'karaoke worship' etc.

Pub Church meets in the upper room (signposted on the day) at The Plough, Witney High Street every second Sunday, 10.30am-12.30pm. Doors open about 10.15am for tea, coffee and breakfast rolls. This is an ideal place for Cogges members to bring friends as a 'second Sunday' activity; you could even invite them to stay for a traditional Sunday roast in the pub afterwards (booking advised).
