Going Deeper

Christians are people who have taken up the call of Jesus to ‘come follow me’. The first disciples of Jesus spent three years following Jesus on the great journey of discipleship. As they spent time with Jesus, they slowly became like Jesus and then they went on to do what Jesus did. This is the adventure of discipleship, of following Jesus. This page is designed to help you to find resources and ideas to help you to like those first disciples spend that time with Jesus and so find your lives radically transformed by God’s goodness.

At Cogges church we want to be a community of people together following that call of Jesus to ‘come follow me’. Part of that we do together in Sunday worship, Connect Groups and Missional communities. However, we also all need to take the responsibility for the growth of our relationship with Jesus and that of our family. That is what these resources are all about. Why not prayerfully read through and see what God’s Spirit prompts you to use to invest time in your relationship with God.

We have produced a booklet (see right) about growing in our walk with Jesus. These webpages expand on the booklet with links to talks and resources which are designed to help you in your personal discipleship.

If you’d like to spend some time going deeper with God through the Bible, then why not try looking at The Bible Project. They have produced many animated overviews of each Bible book as well as themes and important words/terms from the Bible. Each video is approximately 10 minutes each and really is an accessible introduction to some high-quality Bible teaching. Why not spend 10 minutes a day watching through the videos and give yourself an excellent overview of the Bible?

If you’d like to explore how to go deeper with the Bible then you might like to read one of the books How to read the Bible for all its worth by Douglas Stuart and Gordon Fee or Understanding the Bible by John Stott. These help you to get more from reading the Bible by understanding its background and the different types of writing in the Bible.

All the talks from our Sunday worship are available from our talks page and our recent Midweek reflections series on Ephesians is still available. Another way to expand your engagement with the Bible in a more devotional way is to take up a daily scriptural podcast like that from Bridgetown church or Saddleback church’s 10 minute Drivetime devotions.
